Start ‘Em Off Young

March 8th, 2011

Imagine my excitement when I saw this at Border's!  Alas, this children's book has nothing to do with the Beatie Boys, but you don't have to tell your kids that.  (If the Beastie Boys were pricks, I'm sure all they'd have to do is file a few papers with their lawyer to have this book taken off the shelf.)

Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame

March 8th, 2011

I was at the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame this weekend, and this was the only Beastie artifact I came across: Mike D's goggles and dish gloves from the "Intergalactic" video.  (It looks like Mike's gloves suffered some collateral damage from the robot/giant-space-squid fight.)

I also came across this: Chuck D's original sketch for Public Enemy's logo. Part of me thinks it would be cooler if it was just sitting in a junk drawer somewhere in Long Island.

Smack My Beach Up, Ep. 16

March 2nd, 2011

DJ Katanga drops by to talk about Beastie Boys party jams and why he's still angry about the whole Prodigy/"Smack My Bitch Up" drama of the late '90s.

Then, message board legend, Laver1969, flexes his B-Boy muscle and gives 20 Questions a whirl:

Awesome; I F’in Saw That!, Ep. 15

February 16th, 2011

...and the thing is I didn't even know I was going to see it (or who! I was going to see it with):

Milkit Entertainment sends their star reporter, Phammerz, to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah to give us details on the screening of Adam Yauch's Fight For Your Right Revisited:

Viscious Rumors, Ep. 13

January 15th, 2011

In our first podcast of 2011 we randomly weave between topics about Timex Social Club, the Beastie Boys' brand new short film, working with Evan Bernard, and playin' ball with Adam Y-A-U-C-H:

Happy Holiday Hip-Hop Cocktail Mix

December 10th, 2010

Remember that scene in Christmas Vacation when Clark Griswold goes up into the attic and blows a bunch of dust off some old goodies?  Think of this as the mix-tape equivalent of that.  I've pieced together some old holiday remixes/snippets into a shiny, new holiday mix (regardless of what holiday you celebrate).

May it fill you with the joy of the holiday season (or let it mildly entertain you during a long, boring workday).

Lemme hear ya say ho-ho-HO!

Kid Rock & 3 Skinnee J’s, Ep. 12

November 1st, 2010

On this episode of The Brouhaha, Kid Rock channels his inner Beastie; Jim (the first skinnee J) talks with Music Choice's Justin Prager (the second skinnee J) about interning at Capitol Records, programming music videos for MTV, and prognosticating about the Beastie Boys' new album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2; and John (the third skinnee J) tries his hand at "20 Questions."

(left to right:  Kid Rock's under-appreciated, college-radio fav The Polyfuze Method; Kid Rock gracing the cover of Grand Royal, and Justin and Jim cold lampin' with Flavor Flav—who unfortunately is not on this episode of The Brouhaha.)
